Nick Cipponeri opened Basket Case Deli on Valentine's Day, 1984 in the historic, c. 1910 Mauntel General Merchandise store. The deli originally shared space with an antiques store - later the antiques left to make room for Creamery Hill Café & Wine Bar. In 1989, Robert Marfisi, the current owner joined his childhood friend Nick in running the restaurant. Robert purchased Basket Case Creamery Hill in 1994 and can still be found in the kitchen today. It is a REAL treat when both Robert and Nick are there! Robert and his wife, Debra Egli were long time friends who finally married in Hawaii in 1998. It became a true family business when Debra's son, Peter came to work.

The name Creamery Hill Café originated because Nick, the original owner, at one time owned an antiques store in an old creamery building on a hill in Union, Missouri. The location was referred to locally as "Creamery Hill" and Nick realized it was the perfect name for his shop. In his hunts for fine antiques, he found an old set of plates with the initials "CH" on them. Even after closing the Creamery Hill antique shop, he kept the name AND the plates and they are still used today to serve our house dinner salads.

The family and close friend atmosphere that began over 20 years ago is still apparent among the staff and customers of Basket Case Creamery Hill today.

Thank you to all of our friends and family for over 20 years of feeling at home!
